Career History

A health science professional
|
I sold my karate school at age 24 and I pursued my career as an independent worker who has had the pleasure of publishing some ten books and given numerous lectures on health, training and performance.
Academic History
At age 28, I began graduate studies in the field of physical activity at the master’s level, where I specialized in exercise and sports psychology. More specifically, I was interested in studying the impact of stress on our mental and physical abilities. What a great time I had! As a passionate student with boundless energy, I also developed several projects to promote health in the workplace.
Right after I completed my master’s degree, I began doctoral studies in experimental medicine. I should be absolutely clear, however, that although I am a doctor of experimental medicine, I cannot practice medicine… My training is in medical research, and I did not follow the same path as a physician who has the right to practice. I pursued studies at Hôpital Laval de Québec (Sainte-Foy) where I conducted a research project on stress and heart disease.
This is where I earned my first stripes in pain management, and also implemented the stress management program at the hospital’s Pavillon de Prévention des Maladies Cardiaques.
Since I was fortunate enough to work under the supervision of a research director with an open mind, I was allowed to conduct a few laboratory experiments in hypnosis (an almost inevitable area of study when considering the human spirit).
Businesses
After I completed my Ph.D., a partner and I started a business under the name Whittom & Boucher. For the following nine years, I was involved in a number of activities: sports performance psychology consultations, implementation of programs to promote health in the workplace, development of a pain management program, and one of my fondest memories: four years with the Philadelphia Flyers NHL hockey team.
My next step was to open a gym and rehabilitation centre known as Global Hémisphère. I operated an exercise physiology lab, and my main accomplishment was to implement a new approach to weigh loss, which was essentially based on metabolism and physiology analyses. I closed this centre in 2008.
My interest in the interactive dynamics between our thoughts and bodies is as intense as ever. I believe that neuroscience is a fascinating field that can provide increasingly relevant and useful insights and explanations about how human beings function. The knowledge that stems from recent scientific progress in this area is at the core of my work.
You can now meet with me at my new centre, Méga Gym, for advice on training, performance, and weight loss. I am also available to give lectures to businesses and organizations.
I must admit, I am unconventional… But if you like new approaches that are forward thinking where preconceived notions and supposed limitations are cast aside, it is very likely that we will get along very well.
